Dawn has 19 years of experience and practiced in the schools of North Carolina for 15 years as both a clinician and Lead SLP. She was recognized as a Teacher of Excellence at the NC Exceptional Children’s Conference and began expanding into private practice serving children 18 months to 14 years in 2010. Over the years, she has presented for various state speech conventions, county speech departments, and local Universities.
Her main interests include articulation and phonological therapy, specifically /r/, using her own program Let's Hear It For /R/! and Barbara Hodson's Cycles for Phonology. She is a trained Orofacial Myologist working toward certification in this area which led to her interest in tethered oral tissues (tongue-tie). Last year, she returned to school to pursue her clinical doctorate to study using co-articulation to correct final /r/, which is the premise behind Let's Hear It For R!
In 2006, she was recognized as a Teacher of Excellence at the NC Exceptional Children’s Conference. She has worked in the schools of North Carolina since graduation in 1998 as well as private practice part-time over the last five years. She has presented in various school districts across the state on Barbara Hodson's Cycles for Phonology as well as her own program "Let's Hear It For /R/!" which is available for FREE on the Therapy Documents page and also as a "webinar" for more detailed explanation. She has presented at local Universities as well as the state level at the North Carolina Speech, Hearing & Language Association Convention and North Carolina Conference on Exceptional Children. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband Richard and their two girls.
Expressions Speech and Language Center is managed by Richard Moore. Richard has always supported the company since its inception in 2000 and is now actively in charge of school contracting and personnel operations.
"I remember attending speech therapy as a second-grader at my elementary school. My love for my Speech-Language Pathologist is still strong today as she not only helped me to correct my /r/ and /s/ errors, but led me down a path of helping children succeed with their own communication. As a mother of a child requiring speech therapy, I understand the need for quality speech therapy services in Burlington and the surrounding areas. Our practice is dedicated to child-centered therapy and maximum family involvement in all therapy settings."
